H. Michael Wieben settled in Portugal, a country with many similarities to his native southern California insofar as the quality of light and terrain, but different in regard to culture and perception of time. It is particularly this framework which intrigued Wieben, following Einstein's idea of time not being fixed to past, present, future but, rather, as a continuum. In his paintings of people, flowers, and landscapes he liked to combine images with event of movement through contrasts of line, color and ideas.

Universal myths, poetry and music were the sources from which he drew to find understanding of relationships between humankind and nature. His work is to find the composition of Harmony.
